BEHOLD!!--- 'The Return of the Invisible Man' EP by EJ Tha Witchdoctor, 12/23/2015

They say that Hip Hop is a young man’s game.  …I don’t believe that.  That’s industry talk; the kinda talk that comes from one who’s disconnected from the art form.  That’s like saying Pai Mei the White Rabbit has no place in kung fu.
Just like kung fu, Hip Hop is a people’s legacy, a people’s story, and a people’s culture-- and Hip Hop needs its drunken masters.

I say all that to say this: on December 31st, stay tuned as one of Hip Hop’s drunken masters returns from obscurity. I’m speaking of none other than Atlanta’s own--- the Dungeon Family’s own--- EJ tha Witchdoctor!  Direct from the source, he will be releasing a new album entitled Tristmas Island.  How’s THAT for a way to close out 2015 and crank up 2016?

But BEHOLD tho:  it’s Christmas in two days, and the Doctor loves festivities.  So he has gifted us… with a PRE-RELEASE!  Return of the Invisible Man--- a nine track EP featuring polished-up versions of his latest street singles.

I gotta say, being a follower over Witch's last few projects, this pre-release has a strong presence and a strong consistency.  It really puts his myriad of stray singles into a context; all-in-all his creative direction appears to be very yin-and-yang, toward the spiritual and thought-provoking on one end, the carnal and street on the other.  On that note, a recurring theme on the EP is love, which we hear particularly on the very cool cut My Life; howeverthere's also some lust in the mix on the FIRE track Soft Legs (NSFW!), a cut that's in the same vein as Island Konelalee and Spell on Them H*es of past projects.  I say, check 'em both and pick a favorite.

It's interesting getting accustomed to the slightly different Witchdoctor of 2015 while still feeling the impact of the Witchdoctor of 1998. If Return of the Invisible Man is any indicator, Tristmas Island is gonna be his best release since the infamous a s.w.a.t. healin ritual.
